New blog location

I won't go into detail in this post because I already did so at the new blog, but the new blog is here:

http://cavesmith.blogspot.com/

All new posts will be made there

Upgraded resolution

The old resolution was 352x352 so that people with older monitors could play, but I figured that's really a lot lower than most people would ever need, so I bumped it up to 704x704.

I'll probably end up using different sprites for the cave and the character, these don't look that good when each cell is 64x64. I've had a couple of offers from people to do graphics for me, so hopefully there'll be something better looking down the road.

Progress!

Finished the GUI for the battle engine, the battle menus are fully functional. The only thing that remains to be coded is the battle engine itself. Note that the hp and stat description to the left of the sprite only appears if you've scanned the enemy before (scan is a learnable skill).

Sorry for lack of updates

Had a couple of really heavy exams this week. They're behind me though, and I'm working on the battle engine now. Hopefully I'll have it done for this weekend. I'll have the basic look of the battle engine done soon, so I guess I'll post that when I'm finished

Screenshot

I just realized that I haven't posted a screenshot of what the game actually looks like on the blog yet.

Sort of gives you a feel of what the game is going to look like, at least in the dungeon screen. There'll probably be more HUD on the top left showing which dungeon you're in and at what level

Progress made so far

Well, so far I've:
- Gotten the sprites for the character from Link to the Past
- Gotten the sprites for the first dungeon from Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire
- Finished the random dungeon generator
- Finished the rendering engine within dungeons
- Finished the engine behind actually walking through dungeons
- Finished the random encounter engine

Still have a ways to go, but once I get the battle system and character system finished, I should be able to release some playable form of the game

Blog Opened

Well, this is the beginning. Welcome to the blog, I'll be posting whenever I make some progress in developing the game, and I'll be posting screenshots of what I create (maybe videos later on). I'll hopefully have some sort of working beta before too long so people can test out the game and let me know what they think. I'm always looking for suggestions to make the game better, so if you have any good ideas, email me at dungeonraidergame@gmail.com.
